TAKING PICTURES
Indonesians love taking pictures. They love group photos and individual photos. You will find huge portraits of themselves and/ or their children hanging in their houses. If you are at a social event don’t be surprised if you end up spending thirty minutes just taking photographs. Especially now that all smartphones have the capability to take snapshots. Everybody wants to take pictures with their smartphones. People of all ages, on any occasion, will stop whatever they are doing when they see a camera so they can be in the pictures. And Indonesians can’t have just one photograph, at least five or six photos.
DRESS UP & DRESS CODE
Indonesians love to dress to impress. Weddings, birthday parties, and other social events are their chances to transform themselves to look their best with nice dresses, shoes, handbags, makeup, and hairstyle. Women especially love to create their own dress code when they get together. So it is very common to see a group of women dress in a similar color code dress.
SINGING/KARAOKE
Many Indonesians like to sing and watch other people sing, but it does not necessarily mean that everyone is a good singer. Karaoke bars can be found almost everywhere and most Indonesian homes have karaoke. In almost every informal event we can find government officials singing to the public.
SPEECHES
Indonesians love to give speeches. They show respect by giving time to important people to give a speech. If you attend an event don’t be surprised if you have to sit through a long list of speeches. Especially where there are so many important people invited as VIPs.
SMARTPHONES
The smartphone is the primary internet device for millions of Indonesians. It’s very common for Indonesians to have more than one mobile phone. Indonesians love to call and chat for free. WhatsApp messenger is a very popular mobile application.
BATIK
Batik clothes are worn regularly in business academic settings and special events. UNESCO name batik, as an intangible cultural heritage on 2 October 2009. The craft of batik is intertwined with the cultural identity of the Indonesian people and, through the symbolic meanings of its colors and designs, expresses their creativity and spirituality.
